Background information for teachers:
Miss Rutledge’s ICT challenge is a student resource that has been developed for students at a year 2 level. To ensure all students become successful learners; confident and creative individuals; and active and informed global citizens, they need to be exposed to and have an understanding of digital technologies. This student resource acknowledges this and aims at developing students understanding of digital systems through a variety of information communication technology tasks. This resource offers a variety of learning experiences that encourage the use of students critical thinking skills as well as a selecting and utilising a variety of research skills and strategies that can be developed within the classroom and transfer into their home environment.

Digital technologies knowledge and understanding:
Recognise and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose (ACTDIK001)
Digital technologies processes and production skills:
Create and organise ideas and information using information systems independently and with others, and share these with known people in safe online environments (ACTDIP006)
General capabilities:
Literacy – Students will need to comprehend texts through listening and reading in order to establish what is required of them to complete the task. Students will then have to compose texts to share and reflect on their learning experiences.
Numeracy – Students have to complete a graphs galore challenge which requires them to collect data off their fellow peers and represent the collected data in a graph.
Information and communication technology – Throughout the series of ICT challenges that students will have to complete they will have to investigate using ICT, create using ICT and communicate using ICT.
Critical and creative thinking – Students are required to generate a range of ideas to complete the ICT challenges; utilise inquiry skills to identify, explore and organise information they have sourced and reflect of their thinking and the processes they used.
Intercultural understanding – Students will need to apply the social values of netiquette when communicating within the todays meet chat rooms. Students will be interacting and emphasising with their peers.
Students prior knowledge:
Students are ICT literate and have been using computers and iPads within the classroom from prep. Students have independent researching skills and are have completed lessons surrounding safe internet protocols and the importance of netiquette. Students are familiar with navigating websites and other frequently used computer programs. Students are able to download files, access downloaded files and save files in appropriate locations and formats.
Catering for all students needs:
This resource caters for all types of learners and provides supports for all levels of students. Task information is presented both in an auditory and visual format to ensure all students are able to understand requirements of the task. There are a range of ICT experiences for students to complete appealing to majority of Howard Gardner's multiple intelligence's. These ICT challenges are mainly open ended requiring students to conduct research and complete at their own required pace. Each computer has settings that enable the teacher to adapt text size, auditory outputs of information as well as other student access areas.
Assessment:
Once students have completed all eight of the ICT challenges they will have evidence of each challenge within their personal ICT challenge folder within the school server. Assess the final product of each of the challenges as well as the contributions that each student makes in the todays meet chat rooms against the rubric attached.
